Serial cable for Zaurus

Sharp-CE170TS serial cable for ZaurusToday I received Sharp CE-170TS serial cable. It was donated by one of OpenZaurus users which does not make any use of it. After some checking which RS232 port on my desktop machine is /dev/tts/0 and which /dev/tts/1 I got the second one working and installed minicom to get usable terminal (I used minicom years ago during studies when text terminals connected to multiport serial cards was something normal).

Few minutes later I got nice prompt in terminal:

OpenZaurus 3.5.4.1-rc1 c7x0 ttyS0

Now I can provide detailed kernel logs so maybe my 256M SD card will get more fixes from RMK :)

I have Ir keyboard

Yesterday I got package from States (donor want to be anonymous) with few extras to my PDA machines:

  • Belkin F8U1500-T PDA wireless keyboard (irda)
  • Pretec CompactFlash WiFi card (prism2 based)
  • Palm Tungsten stylus (which does not fit in any of my palmtops — maybe it’s time for Tungsten?)

Keyboard works nice with my collie (Sharp Zaurus SL-5500) when I use ‘irk-belkin’ package. Currently no luck with kbdd or zkbdd but I hope that sooner or later I will get this keyboard working nice with this Zaurus. Then it will start harder part — getting it working with Sharp Zaurus C760 which run 2.6 kernel — iirc some things in serial-over-irda has changed so it will need adapting of software.

Another Nokia product which I do not like.

I have Socket Bluetooth Compact Flash card — it’s Rev F so it is based on Nokia DTL-1/DTL-4 card and use dtl1_cs driver.

Card lack any developer documentation, does not survive suspend/resume which make it very hard to use in Zaurus (I have to eject/insert it after each resume), is limited to 230400 bps… And have some extra problems — each time when I have it in my Zaurus C760 I wonder “will it work this time or not?” because by most of time it is not even seen:

root@c7x0:~# cardctl eject;cardctl insert;cardctl ident
Socket 0:
  no product info available
root@c7x0:~# dmesg|tail -n1
cs: pcmcia_socket0: time out after reset.

Anyone want to exchange for any serial_cs based card?

Changes…

After upgrading Wordpress to current nightly I looked on older posts and remind post about getting Zaurus C760. Like teletubbie wrote:

Hmmm, when hrw gets the 760 device mentioned by Richard, then it will mean that it will be harder for me to resist a 7xx device in future, since this would mean really a value add to OZ support on these devices.

I did lot of changes to way how OPIE works on c7×0 (and other hires) devices. Version 1.2.1 (which will be released with OpenZaurus 3.5.4) has many size fixes and there are rumours that 1.2.2 will be released in spring due to my changes ;)

SL-A300 on Allegro

Today friend sent me a message that Sharp Zaurus SL-A300 appeared on Allegro (Polish biggest auction site). This is the only one model of Zaurus not supported in OpenZaurus.

Someone want to donate? :)

I got wrt54gs

Linksys wrt54gs Thanks to [cc]smart I got Linksys wrt54gs router/AP. Tomorrow will look how to use that little box in my “network” which currently is cablemodem ->-UTP5-> PC ->-BT-> Zaurus C760. When got it working then I could use network without running PC via WiFi card in Zaurus.
